After a traumatic incident during his residency, young medical student James Hayman (Namir Smallwood) is transferred to a rural hospital for a fresh start. Noticing that James is having a hard time connecting with patients, Dr. Harrison (veteran stage and screen actor Michael Potts) suggests he take a course in bedside manners and facilitating closer patient relationships. The demons of James’ past begin to catch up with him when he is struck by a young asthmatic patient (Sidney Flanigan, NEVER SOMETIMES ALWAYS) with mysterious symptoms. His grip on reality begins to slip as his disturbing nightmares, anxious speculations, and physical injuries collide with the harsh realities of the medical world.
